Char Dham Yatra Overview
Char Dham Yatra is considered a very sacred pilgrimage in Hinduism. All the four holy dhams of Hinduism are located in the Garhwal Chaitra region in the lap of the Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand. The journey starts from Yamunotri Dham which is situated in Uttarkashi district, after this the next stop is Gangotri Dham from where the holy river Ganges originates. After this, the devotees go to Kedarnath Dham for the darshan of Baba Kedar Ji and after having a spiritual experience from the Panchmukhi incarnation of Lord Shiva, the pilgrims then set out for the next leg of their journey.
The last stop of the holy pilgrimage is Badri Chaitra, located on the banks of the life-giving Alaknanda river at Shri Badrinath Dham, one of the 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, where the Badrinarayan form of Lord Vishnu is worshipped.
Sri Badrinath Dham
Shri Badrinath Dham is one of the four major holy pilgrimages of Hindus. It is situated on the banks of the holy Alaknanda river in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. This holy temple of Hindu religion is situated at a height of about 10280 feet above sea level. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu established Shri Badrinath Dham in Satyuga. Vishnu ji had performed severe penance there and it is believed that even today Lakshmipati Lord Vishnu himself resides at that most holy place.
After visiting Kedarnath Jyotirling, devotees come to Badrinath and visit Lord Nar-Narayan, which liberates all their sins. The distance of Shri Badrinath from Haridwar is about 321 kilometers, which devotees take 10-12 hours to cover and the distance from Kedarnath is about 219 kilometers, which devotees can cover in 7-8 hours.
After having the Sharadpurn Darshan of Lord Nar-Narayan in Badrinath Dham, the devotees' journey becomes even more auspicious and joyful by visiting the major temples around here such as Charanpaduka, Taptkund, Bhimpul, Vyasgufa, Pandukeshwar, Narsing Mandir etc. There are many other beautiful, famous and historical places around Badrinath such as India First Village - Mana, Nitti, Joshimath, Vishnuprayag, Alkapuri Glacier, Vahsudhara Water Fall, Satapath, Swargarohini, Auli, Hemkund Sahib, Ghanagria, Valley of Flowers, Govind Ghat, Malari (Indo-Tibetan Border), Gopinath Temple, Karnprayag (Yogasthali of Karn) Adibadri etc
